Senior Language Engineer - London based

Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Language Engineer to drive efficiencies and innovation in delivering a seamless, fluent, and multilingual experience for AI-assisted services. This is a high-impact role that requires collaboration across global product, design, science, and engineering teams to create scalable language solutions.

We are looking for candidates passionate about the intersection of language and technology who can develop solutions to challenges in the Large Language Model (LLM) space. Using a combination of linguistic expertise (semantics, syntax, pragmatics) and scripting skills, they will solve complex problems in natural language processing and understanding.

This role will focus on designing processes that facilitate the production of high-quality language data, enabling the evaluation and improvement of multilingual AI experiences. Responsibilities include the creation of tools, automation scripts, and workflows for data annotation, as well as the development of intuitive annotation guidelines. The engineer will also analyze productivity and quality metrics to guide teams in achieving desired outcomes.

Strong analytical skills and language technology experience are essential for this role, particularly in automating and scaling data workflows while maintaining the highest linguistic standards. The ideal candidate will also have excellent writing and communication skills, capable of interfacing effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.

Basic Qualifications
· Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing (NLP), or other related field.
· Strong Experience in Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, or Large Language Models
· Proficient in Python.
· Knowledge of Regex, SQL, MS Excel, Git.
· Ability to navigate a Unix terminal and use common command line tools.
· Familiarity with annotation tools and workflows.
· Excellent communication and strong organizational skills with a keen eye for details.
· Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic work environment.
· Willingness to support several projects at one time and to accept reprioritization as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
· Master’s Degree or PhD in Applied Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing (NLP), or other related technical field.
· Proficient in French, German, Hindi, Italian, Spanish, or Japanese.
· Experience in data science and quantitative research.
· Experience in reporting to VP and C-level stakeholders.
· Experience with language annotation and other forms of data markup.
· Hands-on experience with machine learning and deep learning techniques in the fields of NLP and search.
· Experience with AWS services (S3, Sagemaker, ML language services, etc.).
· Knowledge of user experience concepts and methods.
· Familiarity with online retail (e-commerce).
