Recommendations for Translation engine ناشر الموضوع: vhaberst

Dear all,
we are currently using Trados 2022 and wish to combine it with a translation engine by a corresponding provider, such as Trados Language Weaver by RWS, DeepL or Google Translate. Do you have any recommendations for a favorite provider? And perhaps information on their pricing? We are discussing which provider to choose.

Hello, the best solution for me is ModernMT. With a subscription of 25 USD per month I can use it in Trados. | | | Your recommendation | Aug 16 |

When I subscribed to Google Translate (already neural network-powered at that time), I was charged per 1M words and paid about 3–4 dollars per month, and in the final few months it somehow became free for me (i. e. I stopped receiving invoices). Can Modern MT be that much better? Can it see glossary terms, consistently translate all the terms within the same project, and offer you alternative translations during the workflow? These three abilities are what I'd like to find in an MT engine and have never found so far. I haven't even found good evidence that these things are possible (that's what I was looking for when reading posts from passionate advocates of MT; maybe they are possible after all, you just have to know how to implement them). As I mentioned in other posts, my work hasn't slowed down or became worse in any other respect after I abandoned MT

I have good experience with DeepL. It cost the same as ModernMT, though I cannot say which of the two is the better one. DeepL has a free version, so if ModernMT has the same, I would download the free version of each and test them out.

ModernMT is based on your TMs and it can learn on the go. To use it at its best, you need to upload your TM for a specific topic and the biggest is your TM, more accurate will be ModernMT output.
In addiction, I add a specific glossary and I set Trados in order it alerts me if a term has not been used. | | | Thanks for answering | Aug 16 |

It's still of no use to me, I'm afraid. My TMs are huge, but over 90% of them are prior work done by people who translated like machines. MT will love that kind of food. My translations, on the other hand, involve high-level transformations and non-linear term choices, so the machine will not be able to learn from patterns found in them. I recently rewrote someone's huge translation from scratch because it was referring to about 30 standards and the translator was supposed to borrow language from them, which they didn't of course. Who cares about these things in our day and age except oddballs like me. I'm not saying ModernMT can't be helpful, e. g. to someone working with basic texts and using good TMs

As Deepl, the free version for ModernMT doesn’t allow you to use it in Trados.
ModernMT is more efficient when you can add your content and use it in your project in Trados, so I don’t really know if you can see all the avantages if you don’t connect it to Trados. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Recommendations for Translation engine TM-Town | Manage your TMs and Terms ... and boost your translation business
