Botanical characteristics of Broomrape

The Broomrape is a perennial, rarely annual, parasitic plant family sharazykova. Difference species of Broomrape are, first, modified leaves that are more like scales, and secondly, the color of all parts of the plant-parasite: due to the presence in plant tissues is exceptionally low dose of chlorophyll, the plant has a yellowish, light-brown, bluish or pink color.

The root of the plant is a short, fleshy fibres of the sucker, which is fixed in the soil, and securely attach themselves to the host plant. The stems of Broomrape at the base of the clavate or tuberous thickened, simple, erect, fleshy, sometimes branched. Flowers – funnel-shaped, campanulate or tubular, bilabiate, collected in inflorescence – racemose or spicate, usually bluish-purple hue. The fruit is a bivalve, at least three-sided box. Seeds small and numerous.

The natural habitat of this herb – the southern regions of the European part of Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, Moldova, Belarus and the Caucasus. The Broomrape is parasitic mostly on the roots of herbaceous plants (most flowering).


Useful properties of Broomrape

Useful properties of Broomrape in the treatment of various diseases has been appreciated by folk healers. Medicinal raw materials are all parts of the plant, which was collected in the flowering period. For drying of medicinal raw materials used large dry space, which provided good ventilation.

In the chemical composition of Broomrape contains alkaloids (nicotine), sterols, mannitol and tannins. The chemical composition of the grass Broomrape higher fatty acids, alkaloids. Also the plant found cholin (nitrogen-containing compound), carotenoids, anthocyanins, phenols and carbohydrates.

Medicinal infusions and decoctions of Broomrape are used as wound-healing, antispasmodic, antiseptic, sedative, analgesic, restorative, and tonic.


The use of Broomrape

The Broomrape has found its wide application in folk medicine (and in both domestic and East). Medicinal infusions and teas due to its unique chemical composition are used successfully in diseases such as neurosis, intestinal colic, flatulence, toothache, diarrhoea, enterocolitis, colitis, impotence,fatigue, swelling. A decoction of Broomrape is used to rinse the mouth.

The crushed plant has wound-healing effect, so it is used for the treatment of wounds of various etiologies. In Eastern medicine, the Broomrape is used as an effective afrodisiacas funds (increasing libido).


A decoction of Broomrape

Recipe No. 1. 1 teaspoon of dried root (chopped) medicinal plants is poured 200 ml of hot water and placed in a boiling water bath for 5-6 minutes, then the broth infused for 60 minutes. The resulting medium is filtered in a clean container and nominal volume is brought purified water to the original volume (200 ml). Take this medicine 1/3 Cup 3 times a day for the treatment of allergies.

Recipe № 2. 2 teaspoons of crushed roots pour 200 ml of hot water, and then placed in a boiling water bath. The composition is infused for 60 minutes, then cooled and filtered into a clean bowl. The resulting infusion is used as an external agent (for rinsing mouth).

Recipe No. 3. 2 tablespoons dry herbs (chopped) pour 400 ml boiling water and insist in a boiling water bath for 3-4 minutes, then removing from fire, insist for another 60 minutes. Then the composition is filtered into a clean container and take 100 ml 3 times a day for migraines.

The infusion of Broomrape

Recipe No. 1. 1 h you spoon grass pour 200 ml of boiling water and infused for 30 minutes, then filtered into a clean bowl. Take the money received inside of 15 ml 3 times a day when sleep disturbance.

Recipe № 2. 2 tablespoons dry grass pour 200 ml of boiling water and insist for two hours, after which the resulting infusion filter and take 1/3 Cup 3 times a day when diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Recipe No. 3. 1 teaspoon of crushed roots of the plant, pour 200 ml of boiling water and infused for 60 minutes, then filtered into a clean bowl. Take this medicine 15 ml 4-5 times a day as a diuretic.

Recipe No. 4. 2 teaspoons of Broomrape flowers pour 200 ml boiling water and infused for 60 minutes, then filtered into a clean bowl. Take the infusion to 30 ml 3-4 times a day withcystitis.


The sunflower Broomrape

Sunflower Broomrape is the parasitic plant family sharazykova. Of the plant stem simple, fleshy, thickened at the base and is not branched, it reaches a height of 65 cm Leaves – reduced scales are pinkish-purple hue (due to the lack in plant tissues a sufficient amount of chlorophyll). The flowers are large, purple hue, clustered in spikes. The fruit is a bivalve capsule with numerous small and light seeds.

Thanks to its lightness by the sunflower Broomrape seeds are easily transferred by wind, insects and rain. After contact with the soil, the seeds retain the ability to germination for 5-10 years. Natural areal of distribution of this species – almost the whole area of Europe: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, France, Spain, Bulgaria, Serbia, etc. the Devil is a parasite on sunflower crops such as sunflower, tomato and tobacco.


Contraindications to the use of Broomrape

As the chemical composition of Broomrape has been little studied, to apply healing infusions and decoctions from this plant should be with extreme caution. Contraindicated reception of Broomrape pregnant and lactating women, children, and hypersensitive, nervous excitement, high blood pressure, acute kidney diseases, kidney stones.
