Botanical characteristics zigadenus

Zigadenus, is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Lily family (in the newer sources, the plant belongs to the family melentyevich). The root of the plant – conical bulb with a diameter of 10 mm, is covered over its entire length dark brown membranous sheath. Zigadenus stem erect, thin, unbranched, length can reach 90 cm. the plant's Leaves linear, tapering to the base and acuminate at the ends, are in the lower part of the stem. Flowers – simple, drooping, collected in a loose inflorescence (paniculate-racemose). Petals colored in pale green shade. Fruit – trehglazaya capsule ovate-conical, with numerous seeds (length of the box is approximately 10 mm). Seeds oblong, brownish-yellow hue.

Zigadenus, blooms in summer (June-August), fruiting in late September. The natural distribution area – the North-Western part of European Russia, Siberia, Ukraine, Mongolia and China. Zigadenus, grows on forest edges and clearings, meadows and thickets, and in sparse forests.


Useful properties zigadenus

Despite the fact that all parts of the plant are poisonous zigadenus, in folk medicine has for many decades used aboveground part of the plant (grass). Are harvested medicinal raw materials in the period of flowering plants in June-August. The chemical composition of the grass zigadenus is still not fully understood. It is known only that in its composition the herb contains such potent alkaloids as veratraldehyde, veretenin and versin.

Due to the fact that all parts of the plant are poisonous, to use drugs made from zigadenus, with caution. Not allowed the use of healing extracts of plants inside. Tincture, tinctures and ointment-based zigadenus have pronounced anti-parasitic and calming the nervous system effect.


Application zigadenus

In folk medicine, medicinal infusions, tinctures and ointments from zigadenus used in neuralgia and radiculitis, as an analgesic, distracting and irritating means, and also as an effective drug in the fight against parasites. Tincture, infusion and ointment on the basis of this medicinal plant are used exclusively as external funds!


Zigadenus tincture: 50 grams of medicinal raw materials(grass plants), pour 100 ml of 40% ethyl alcohol and insist in for 10 days in a dark place, and then the resulting infusion is filtered into a clean container and applied externally for parasites and neuralgia.

Zigadenus infusion: 5 g of dry medicinal raw pour 200 ml of hot water and insist for two hours, then filtered into a clean container. The resulting infusion is used as external agent for the parasites.

Ointment zigadenus: 20 g herb triturated with 50 g of vaseline or melted lard. Apply this ointment externally as an analgesic and distracting remedies for neuralgia, sciatica, pain in joints and rheumatism.



Zigadenus Siberian

Zigadenus, Siberian perennial herb of the Lily family. Plant height is from 20 to 80 cm Root – ovate-oblong follicle, which over its entire length covered with dark brown membranous sheath (the leaves). The stem is single, unbranched, erect. The leaves of the plant located in the lower part of the stem (at the base), they are linear, tapering to the base and pointed at the ends. The flowers are small, numerous, collected in a loose panicle. Fruit – trehglazaya capsule with numerous seeds.

Blooms, zigadenus Siberian in Jun-August, fructifies in late September. The natural habitat of the plants – Eastern part of European Russia, Siberia, Ukraine, the far East, Mongolia and China. This species grows on forest edges, dense thickets, meadows and glades. All parts zigadenus Siberian very poisonous, so it should be used with extreme caution and only after consultation with your doctor.

As a medicinal plant used aboveground part of plants – grass. The chemical composition of the grass zigadenus Siberian contain potent alkaloids. Therapeutic tincture, infusion and ointment used in neuralgia, joint pains, sciatica, rheumatism, and also as an effective antiparasitic agents.


Contraindications to the use of zigadenus

Before you start treatment with drugs, which include, zigadenus, it should be remembered that all parts of the plant are very poisonous. Drugs zigadenus is contraindicated in pregnant and nursing women, children under the age of three years, in diseases of the liver (cirrhosis) and if you are hypersensitive (allergic reaction).
