Causes and symptoms of sepsis

What is sepsis?

Sepsis (blood poisoning) is a serious infectious disease that is caused by spread of infection from primary focus in connection with the violation of the mechanisms of local and General immunity.

Types of sepsis

Obstetric sepsis has two periods: prenatal and postnatal (for the reasons septic diseases medical staff or the mother). This infection is very dangerous as it travels through different objects and can enter the body through wounds, the respiratory, dermal or baby food. Suppurative process occurs at the site of infection.

Most common surgical sepsis. The reasons of it are complications of various surgical purulent diseases or injuries (wounds, burns , etc.).

Otogenny sepsis is dangerous, as it can occur as a complication of purulent otitis media. It often leads to the spread of infection to the membranes of the brain, which contributes to the development of meningitis.

Rhinogenous sepsis sometimes associated with complications of purulent diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses.

Urosepsis occurs when the inflammation of the urogenital system (urethritis, cystitis, pyelitis, nephritis, bartholinitis, prostatitis).

Causes of sepsis

The causes of sepsis include suppurative processes of the soft tissues, bones, joints and internal organs, and reduced immunity, massive invasion. If local purulent focus exists for a long period of time without effective and timely medical treatment may develop sepsis.

Sepsis can cause the Staphylococcus, meningococcus, Escherichia or Pseudomonas aeruginosa, ringworm, small pox or herpes.

The symptoms of sepsis

In children, sepsis may begin to develop due to lack of body mass, bleeding or omphalitis. Among the first signs distinguish insomnia, anxiety, fatigue, loss of appetite, fluctuations in body temperature, belching, vomiting, disorders of stool, pallor, palpitations. With the increase in the blood of harmful microorganisms, high temperature, General condition of the patient is deteriorating rapidly, nasolabial area becomes bluish, the heartbeat quickens, the skin loses its elasticity, oppressed consciousness.

General symptoms of sepsis also showed a significant increase in body temperature (39-40 °C), the appearancetachycardia. The patient shakes, and he sweats a lot. During intoxication the person feels weak, it spoils the appetite; the liver and spleen may increase.

Sepsis is characterized by multiple organ systems, often develop cardiac, respiratory, renal, liver failure. Because of the bleeding disorders occur bleeding, skin rash. Examination of the patient shows a sharp increase or a significant decrease in the level of leucocytes in the blood is relatively normal.

The treatment of sepsis

Treatment of sepsis is an intensive therapy for patients with purulent infection. It includes surgical removal of purulent foci: surgically removed the affected tissue, operating actively wound drains, sutures or skin grafts. After surgery for cleansing purulent focus are different osmotically active ointment.

Treatment of sepsis involves the use of antibiotics and antiseptic agents.

Sepsis is a serious condition, and in any form, the patient should be hospitalized as early as possible. The faster surgical debridement of suppurative focus, the more intense combined therapy, the more likely the patient will quicker get better.

Sepsis of newborn

As sepsis is a violation of many body processes (blood flow, perfusion). Statistics show that the incidence in newborns is high, but this problem is actively studied.

Sepsis in children can develop as a concomitant of other diseases of symptom and may not have its own characteristics. This disease is the body's reaction to the ingress of pathogenic microorganisms. Inflammation when there is uncontrolled formation of pus.

In neonates sepsis may occur when exposed to Klebsiella and Pseudomonas, and streptococci, Enterobacteriaceae or Candida. Sometimes the disease occurs when the action of several microorganisms. Most often, sepsis affects children up to one year with low body weight.
